This workshop is for all of you who would like to remember and sing together songs out of rich treasure of Moravian and Slovak folk songs and support our voice and our identity in depth.
These songs are beautiful and powerful, full of melodic and harmonic elements and wonderful lyrics. They differ in the dialect as well as in the melody and rhythm and are very specific in their arrangements – one-voice line sung together or huge sound of multi-voice, fluent tones of songs sung by grass cropping, songs about love, work, everything that the life brings, or the Moravian songs about love. All of these songs have the power to show us where we originate and also to lead us back “home”.
Our folk culture and folklore have already been endangered. People cease to sing, forget about their treasures inside themselves, in the modern world they are overwhelmed with noise and stress of various pressures and survival plans. It is not only us, who are endangered, but also our children. If we forget where we are from, where we originate, we forget also where our voice originates.
We have beautiful songs that we need to approach reliably, with love and sincerity. These songs bind us; they are “ours”, our folk heritage, which had been left here for us by our ancestors, and we use to forget about them or put them away, because we are not able to create some space and we stop to feel the responsibility. We have songs in common that we can move onto our children. We tear apart ourselves from the songs and therefore we forget who we are.
Often, when people want to sing together, they cannot remember a song that would be familiar to everyone, so that they could sing together. Singing is a medicine, a nowadays therapy, and songs are the means to seek ourselves, our voice deep inside of us. It is important to remember these feelings of inner home, feelings of care-free, safety and our self. Sing out the pain and sadness, sing out the stress and pressure of nowadays, sing out our strong passion and desire and tell out all the wishes and dreams in a song sung together and be proud of our rich heritage and culture.
Ida Kelarová had invited for this workshop two excellent artists, singers, musicians and dancers, Petra Vraňáková and Lenka Dubníčková.
Petra and Lenka are young, talented singers, musicians and dancers who support, inspire and dedicate their work to the traditional adaptation of habits and songs of different regions of Slovak culture. They met in group Lúčnica and their friendship strengthened their deep interest in culture, traditions, singing and music of their home country, Slovakia. They have established their own vocal group Hrdličky.
When I heard Petra and Lenka sing two-voice Slovakian songs for the first time, I felt warm at my heart and at the same time my whole body shivered and my tears burst in emotion. My joy was enormous… their voices penetrated not only into our hearts but also into my consciousness and conscience.
Their singing reminds us of life, beauty and power of “traditional songs”; they open the desire to sing these songs along, not to be ashamed for who we are, where we are from and to be proud of our culture. Both singers have such strength in their voices that they can inspire even a young generation that prefers mostly the modern western music styles. Do not let this experience pass you by, come along with children to sing with us.”
Workshop is organized in cooperation with Slovak Institute in Prague and held under their auspices.

Idin způsob otvírání a objevování lidského hlasu není vedený zájmem o dosáhnutí technické dokonalosti.
Pěvecký workshop vede Ida Kelarova, asistují Desiderius Dužda a Tomáš Kačo. Výuka probíhá v jazyce českém, v pronajatém penzionu Galerie v Dolní Jedlové – v krásné přírodě Vysočiny.
Žít kreativní život,
zazpívat moji píseň,
musím ztratit strach z toho,
že nezazpívám správně.

Dežo is a successful music composer with extensive production, and his songs are chanted all over the world. In terms of vocal production he focuses on Romany multichoirs and vocal harmonies. He passes on his art experiences: he organizes guitar workshops, focusing namely on Romany harmonic techniques, so typical for Romany music. His unique guitar style, Romany harmony and chords sequence are his specialties, and his guitar workshops are very much appreciated in our country as well as abroad. Owing to his openness and heartiness, Dežo is not known as an exceptional artist only, but also as a popular teacher, representing and representing the Romany culture on the professional level.
During the 90’s he was a founding member of the Kale music band, accompanying vocalist Věra Bílá. He was awarded the Golden Record for 10 000 CDs sold. In 1997 Dežo started his close cooperation with Ida Kelarova, founding a band called Romano rat (Romany blood) and an international choir called Apsora (Tear drops) and the Jazz famelija band. He has been cooperating with Ida Kelarova ever since. Dežo is a successful music composer with extensive production, and his songs are chanted all over the world. In terms of vocal production he focuses on Romany multichoirs and vocal harmonies. He passes on his artistic experience: he organizes guitar workshops, focusing mainly on Romany harmonic techniques, so typical for Romany music. He is a chairman of the Miret civic association along with Ida Kelarova, aimed at supporting the talented Romany youth.
Dežo was born in Pilsen, he grew up in Rokycany, and comes from a family of ten children. Dežo started to play the guitar when he was four. His father, Vojtěch Bela Dužda, one of the most recognized viola players, an exquisite musician, who played all kinds of music instruments, was the greatest inspiration and teacher to him. Dežo recalls: “I was the youngest child. My father, as a musician, did not devote that much time to me; he passed all his art on to my oldest brother. Nevertheless, I wanted to become a musician. My mother told me, that when I was a small boy and my family played, I always took a coat hanger and played on it as if it was a guitar. I learned my first chords myself, I listened to how my brothers and my father played. And I used to practice a lot; I wanted to be a good musician. My childhood was quite hard, the poverty was overwhelming. I had big dreams, I wanted what the other children had. But I got more than those kids who had everything – I could feel the unity and fellowship of our family. In our home we played and sang all the time – whether we were hungry or not. Music and singing were my substitute for all the unfulfilled desires.”
Dežo, the way everybody calls him, is a modest person with big heart, beautiful soul and beautiful smile, which brings light into our stressed – out lives. He takes his guitar, gently, as if he wanted to caress it and say hello, he touches the strings and you suddenly find yourselves in the universe of music, where only a supreme instrumentalist can take you. You are there, in the Gypsy music, together with him, you listen to his voice, you feel his smile, the mimics of his face, and suddenly you are one soul with him, you sound in the same tone. This sensitive person – an artist – has got a charisma, which opens up right in front of you during his music production. It touches you and offers all his being. Through singing he talks about himself, about love and about who he is. His music reveals what troubles him, what makes him happy, what he is experiencing at this moment in life…
“I put into my music something of myself. I felt, that I must put into the composition what I am going through and what is forming me at this very moment, because only then it is going to be true. When I feel love, it inspires me in everything. If I didn’t feel love, my life would be without meaning. I can say that I am the happiest person in the world. I found my love. However I´d like to say that sadness can also be an inspiration. I often think about my parents. They gave me inner wealth, on which I draw up till now. And owing to Ida, who is sensitive to me and is able to experience my sadness with me, I am not alone. If I had ever loved and I thought I had loved, I did not know what love was. Love which enriches, love which gives me freedom, love, owing to which I am the happiest person in the world.”
